Yar Gelse Yoluna Mum Yakarım (Türkü) / Aşkın Ateşiyle Yanan Kalbimi (Türkü)

Released in the mid-1960s by the Istanbul-based Nisso Plak, this 45 RPM record represents a pivotal era in Turkish popular music history. During this period, the Turkish recording industry was actively bridging the gap between traditional Anatolian folk music, known as türkü, and the emerging influence of Western pop aesthetics. Adnan Varveren, a multi-talented figure who navigated both the musical and film industries, utilized these recordings to capture the melancholic yet rhythmic spirit of the regional folk tradition for an urbanizing audience.

The design and production of Nisso Plak releases from this catalog series reflect the pragmatic, utilitarian aesthetic common to independent Turkish labels of the decade. The recording focuses on the vocal performance, stripping away unnecessary artifice to emphasize the emotive storytelling inherent in the lyrics. While these records were originally distributed in limited runs primarily for the local market, they have since gained recognition among ethnomusicologists and collectors of Anatolian pop for their role in preserving regional musical dialects during a time of significant cultural modernization.
