Zingt Psalmen - Dan Zingen Zij In God Verblijd

Released under the Religioso label, this recording reflects the mid-20th-century Dutch tradition of Reformed choral music, specifically the practice of singing metrical psalms. The album captures the collaboration between the choir Cantate Deo of Amersfoort and organists Peter Eilander and Herman van Vliet, musicians deeply embedded in the liturgical music scene of the Netherlands. These recordings were intended to preserve the specific harmonic arrangements and performance styles favored by Dutch Protestant congregations during that era.

The production leans into a solemn, reverent aesthetic characteristic of the Religioso catalog, which served as a dedicated archive for sacred choral and organ repertoire. The design is minimal, focusing on clarity and the religious context of the music rather than commercial appeal, aimed primarily at a dedicated listenership within the Dutch church community. It represents a period where analog recordings were the primary medium for disseminating congregational hymnody beyond the Sunday service.
