Provenance

Where it came from

Backup Squad was originally released in the 2018 Mega-Tin Mega Pack, a compilation set designed to reprint high-value and popular cards from the previous year's core sets, such as Code of the Duelist and Circuit Break. This pack served as a seasonal staple for players looking to acquire essential utility cards without needing to purchase original release boosters, helping to stabilize the accessibility of specific spell and trap cards within the competitive ecosystem.

The card’s design focuses on defensive resource management, functioning as a continuous spell that allows the player to draw a card when they take battle damage while controlling fewer monsters than their opponent. The illustration and mechanics align with the 'Cyberse' archetype's debut era, emphasizing recovery strategies during a period when the game was rapidly shifting toward faster playstyles and more complex link-summoning interactions.
