Where it came from
Contract with Don Thousand was released in 2017 as part of the Duelist Saga set, a collection designed to bridge the gap between various Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series by highlighting iconic cards used by major antagonists. The card specifically draws from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal series, where it serves as a central plot device associated with the deity Don Thousand. Its inclusion in the set was intended to provide players with a functional version of a card previously seen only in its animated form.
The design of the card reflects the dark, cosmic aesthetic associated with the Barian World within the Zexal storyline. Illustrators aimed to capture the essence of a sinister pact, using heavy visual motifs that signify the high-risk, high-reward nature of its effect. Upon its release, it was received as a niche but thematic addition to the game, appreciated primarily by collectors and fans of the Zexal series who value the narrative depth the card adds to their personal archives.
