Provenance

Where it came from

Contract with the Abyss was originally released in the 2002 expansion set Dark Crisis, designed to support the 'Archfiend' archetype and ritual summoning mechanics of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. As a Ritual Spell card, its primary utility is to summon specific high-level monsters from the hand by offering tributes, reflecting the dark, gothic aesthetic established by Konami’s design team during the game's early years to contrast with more conventional warrior or dragon themes.

The version included in OTS Tournament Pack 12, released in 2019, represents a reprint intended for tournament-level play and collection accessibility. These packs are exclusively distributed to Official Tournament Stores to be awarded as participation or prize support, serving as a functional staple for players utilizing legacy strategies rather than as a primary chase rarity. Its appearance in this set underscores the card's enduring, niche role within competitive deck-building rotations.
