Where it came from
Dark Necrofear was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the 2002 set Labyrinth of Nightmare. As an iconic Fiend-type monster used by the character Bakura in the original animated series, it was designed to embody a sense of dark, supernatural dread. Its mechanic, which allows it to return from the Graveyard and possess an opponent's monster, was crafted to reflect the malevolent, parasitic nature of the character it represents.
The Dark Beginning 2 set, released in 2005, served as a compilation that reissued some of the most influential cards from earlier expansions. By including Dark Necrofear as a common-rarity card in this set, Konami made this powerful tactical asset more accessible to the broader player base. While the card's original holographic releases from Labyrinth of Nightmare remain the most sought after by collectors, the Dark Beginning 2 version stands as a practical staple for fans of the game's classic era.
