Where it came from
Dark Necrofear was originally introduced as an Ultra Rare card in the 2002 set Labyrinth of Nightmare. Designed as the signature boss monster of the character Bakura in the Yu-Gi-Oh! animated series, the card was conceptualized to embody the eerie, supernatural aesthetic of the occult-themed decks used by its fictional owner. Its illustration depicts a haunting, doll-like entity with detached limbs, reflecting the dark, gothic tone that defined Bakura’s presence in the series.
The Duelist Pack: Rivals of the Pharaoh set, released in 2016, serves as a retrospective collection that reissued iconic cards associated with the antagonists and rivals of the original series. By including Dark Necrofear as a common rarity card, the set allowed collectors and players to acquire the classic monster in a format that was more accessible than its original high-rarity printings, while maintaining the essential design and mechanics of the original Japanese version.
