Where it came from
Dark Necrofear was originally introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in the Pharaoh's Servant expansion in 2002. As a Fiend-type monster used by the character Bakura in the anime series, it became iconic for its unique ability to possess opposing monsters from the graveyard. Its design, characterized by its ghostly, doll-like appearance and stitched-together aesthetic, aligns with the darker, occult-themed cards favored by the show's antagonists.
The Retro Pack 2 release, which includes the RP02-EN042 variant, was designed to provide players with access to older, out-of-print cards that had become staples of the early competitive meta. The Super Rare printing in this set maintained the original, haunting artwork while updating the card’s physical presentation to match the standards of later card manufacturing, allowing a new generation of collectors to obtain a high-quality copy of a classic powerhouse.
