Evilswarm Azzathoth

Evilswarm Azzathoth was introduced as part of the Duel Terminal 7b booster set, released as part of the overarching Duel Terminal storyline in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. The set focused on the 'Swarm' archetype, a dark, corrupted reimagining of the iconic 'Steelswarm' and 'Laval' factions, reflecting a narrative arc where these ancient mechanical beings were overtaken by a malevolent influence. The card design leans heavily into the industrial, eldritch aesthetic characterized by the set, featuring intricate metallic textures and a distinct purple-tinted color palette designed to evoke a sense of corruption and decay.

The art and mechanical identity of the card were developed by the design teams at Konami, aiming to provide players with a high-utility monster that functioned as a centerpiece for the Evilswarm strategy. Upon its release, the card became a focal point for players navigating the Duel Terminal meta-game, as it utilized the 'Xyz Summoning' mechanic introduced in the ZEXAL era to capitalize on the set's graveyard-focused synergies. It was generally received as a mechanically sound addition to the archetype, praised by competitive players for its ability to disrupt opposing board states while maintaining the thematic consistency of the corrupted machine-race narrative.
