Provenance

Where it came from

Fog King was originally released in the 2008 set Tactical Evolution, though the version specified here hails from the 2013 War of the Giants: Reinforcements booster pack. This set was designed by Konami as a standalone draft-style expansion, intended to provide players with a curated selection of powerful cards that were previously difficult to acquire or essential for specific competitive strategies.

The design of Fog King reflects a unique mechanical approach to tribute summoning within the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game. By allowing its tribute requirement to be substituted with any monster on the field, the card was crafted to punish opponents who relied on powerful high-level monsters. While it did not dominate the competitive meta, it remains a notable example of early-era card design that sought to disrupt traditional gameplay loops through creative conditional effects.
