Kuriboh

The Kuriboh card included in the 2019 Yu-Gi-Oh! Advent Calendar pays homage to one of the most recognizable mascots in the franchise's history. Created by Kazuki Takahashi for the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, the character debuted as Yugi Muto’s reliable defensive partner, designed to reflect a whimsical, non-threatening aesthetic that contrasted with the more aggressive monsters in the game. This specific iteration, designated AC19-EN001, was released as an Ultra Rare promotional card to commemorate the holiday season, serving as both a functional tool for duels and a collectible memento for long-time enthusiasts.

The design of Kuriboh relies on a distinct, fuzzy, and spherical aesthetic that has remained largely consistent since its introduction in the late 1990s. When translated into card form for the trading card game, it was famously utilized for its 'multiply' and 'detonate' effects, cementing its reputation as a strategic staple for players who favor defensive utility over brute force. The 2019 Advent Calendar release was received warmly by the community as a nostalgic inclusion, maintaining the artistic legacy of the card while providing a high-rarity variant for those curating specific sets.
