Kuriboh

Kuriboh was originally introduced in the early years of the Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game, debuting in the Japanese OCG and later finding its way to English markets in the Metal Raiders booster set. As one of the most recognizable mascots of the franchise, the monster was designed by Kazuki Takahashi to be a deceptive defensive unit, functioning as a 'hand trap' that surprises opponents by mitigating battle damage. Its simple, spherical design and endearing personality made it a staple of the series, reflecting the creator's intent to balance high-stakes dueling with moments of whimsy and unexpected tactical utility.

The Metal Raiders set, released in the early 2000s, served as the second core expansion for the game, expanding the available strategic pool significantly beyond the base set. The super-rare iteration of Kuriboh (MRD-EN071) became a sought-after piece for players who valued both its utility in competitive play and its visual appeal as a holographic card. Over time, the card attained iconic status within the trading card community, often cited as a quintessential example of how a low-attack monster can become an essential component of a well-rounded deck.
