Last Will

Last Will was originally released as a common spell card in the 2002 Starter Deck: Yugi, a foundational product designed to introduce Western players to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. The card's mechanics, which allow a player to search their deck for a monster with 1500 or less attack after one of their own monsters is sent to the graveyard, were derived from the early Japanese OCG sets. It was intended to facilitate faster gameplay by cycling lower-level monsters into play during the turn.

The card's design features the iconic, minimalist aesthetic of early-era Yu-Gi-Oh! spell cards, emphasizing functionality over complex flavor text. Created by Konami's design team during a period when the game's competitive rules were still evolving, Last Will became a staple in tournament play for years. Its powerful search capabilities eventually led to its inclusion on the Forbidden and Limited list, as its utility in combo-heavy decks grew far beyond what the developers likely intended when the set was first localized.
