Provenance

Where it came from

Last Will was released in the Starter Deck: Yugi in 2002, marking the English-language debut of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Designed to reflect the strategic mechanics featured in the original manga and anime, the card allowed players to search their deck for a low-level monster after a creature of their own was sent to the graveyard. This set served as the foundational entry point for many players in the West, providing them with essential tools and core game mechanics.

The card's design followed the aesthetic guidelines established by Konami for the early TCG printings, characterized by the distinct card frame and layout common to the era. Over the years, Last Will became a subject of significant interest within the competitive community due to its powerful utility in chain combos, eventually leading to its inclusion on the official Forbidden list in many formats. Its legacy remains tied to the early power-creep cycles that defined the evolution of the game's competitive environment.
