Mirror Force

Mirror Force was first released as an Ultra Rare in the 1999 Japanese set Metal Raiders, quickly becoming one of the most iconic and feared trap cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Its design features a literal mirror reflecting an incoming assault, a visual representation of its effect which destroys all attack-position monsters controlled by an opponent when they declare an attack. The card was created to serve as a definitive defensive counter-measure, punishing players who over-committed their field to an offensive play.

By the time it was reprinted as a common card in the 2011 Dragunity Legion Structure Deck, Mirror Force had already cemented its status as a staple of the game. While the original release carried significant prestige and scarcity, its inclusion in structure decks allowed newer players access to its powerful board-clearing capabilities. The card remains a quintessential example of early game design, where a single trap could entirely shift the momentum of a duel.
