My Body as a Shield

My Body as a Shield was first introduced in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Magician's Force expansion set in 2003. It was designed as a tactical defensive spell card, allowing players to pay life points to negate and destroy monsters with destruction effects, effectively countering the prevailing meta-strategy of wiping the board with cards like Raigeki or Dark Hole.

The card was later reprinted in Dark Revelation Volume 1, a compilation set released in 2005 that sought to make cards from earlier expansions more accessible to the competitive community. The artwork, depicting a stoic armored figure braced against an incoming blast, was created by the Konami design team to visually represent the concept of damage mitigation, and it remains a well-recognized staple from the game's early history.
