Where it came from
Sky Striker Mecha - Hornet Drones was introduced in the 2018 Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG booster set Dark Saviors. As a key component of the Sky Striker archetype, it was designed to support the playstyle of 'Sky Striker Ace - Raye,' providing a utility token that allows players to link climb or maintain board presence. Its thematic design reflects the high-tech, mecha-inspired aesthetic that defines the series, drawing heavily on classic Japanese aerial combat tropes.
The card was illustrated by the Konami design team, who sought to emphasize the modular nature of the Sky Striker weaponry. Upon its release, it became one of the most significant cards in the game's competitive history due to its versatility as a starter. Its widespread impact on the meta led to extensive regulatory action, including multiple placements on the Forbidden and Limited list, which remains a testament to its foundational power within the deck engine.
