Where it came from
Sky Striker Mecha - Widow Anchor was released in the 2018 Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game set Dark Saviors. It was introduced alongside the Sky Striker archetype, which centered on the protagonist Rei and her modular mechanized suit, drawing heavy inspiration from the magical girl and mecha subgenres of anime. The card served as the centerpiece of the archetype's control-oriented strategy, providing both negation and temporary monster control, which solidified the deck's competitive viability.
The artwork, consistent with the aesthetic direction of the Sky Striker series, focuses on dynamic, high-tech mechanical design balanced by the central pilot character. Kazuki Takahashi’s studio is generally credited with the visual oversight of the franchise, aiming for a sleek, kinetic style that contrasted with the more traditional fantasy tropes seen in earlier card sets. Upon its release, the card became highly sought after by players due to its versatile utility, quickly becoming a staple in high-level competitive play throughout the late 2010s.
