Soul Release

Soul Release was first introduced to the English TCG market in the Metal Raiders booster set, released in 2002. As a Normal Spell card, its function is to banish up to five cards from either player's graveyard, a mechanic designed to counter strategies heavily reliant on graveyard manipulation. The card reflects the early philosophy of Yu-Gi-Oh! card design, where situational utility spells were essential for managing an opponent's resources in a format that was still defining its competitive landscape.

The artwork features a spectral figure surrounded by ethereal energy, capturing the game's dark fantasy aesthetic characteristic of the early Konami era. While the card is a common rarity, its design is iconic among long-term players for its enduring relevance as a graveyard disruption tool. It has been reprinted in numerous sets over the decades, though the original Metal Raiders print remains a notable piece for collectors interested in the initial expansion of the game outside of Japan.
