Soul Release

Soul Release was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as part of the Dark Beginning 1 set, released in 2004. This set functioned as a compilation, reprinting cards from the game's earliest expansions to provide newer players with access to foundational mechanics and staple cards that had become difficult to acquire. As a Normal Spell card, its function was designed to offer strategic utility by allowing players to banish up to five cards from either graveyard, effectively countering decks that relied on recursion or graveyard-based resources.

The card's design features an understated, functional aesthetic typical of early Spell cards in the franchise. While the original artwork and card layout were inherited from the Japanese OCG releases, the English printing served as a key utility tool during the game's formative years. It was received by players as a necessary sideboard option in competitive play, particularly during formats where graveyard management determined the flow of the duel, cementing its status as a reliable, common-rarity staple.
