Zoodiac Drident

Zoodiac Drident was first introduced during the Raging Tempest expansion in early 2017, representing the pinnacle of the Zoodiac archetype that defined competitive Yu-Gi-Oh! play for much of that year. The archetype, known for its unique ability to overlay Xyz monsters onto a single Zoodiac creature, drastically accelerated gameplay speed. Drident specifically was designed as the central disruption engine of the deck, allowing players to destroy face-up cards on the field during either player's turn.

The 2017 Mega-Tin Mega Pack, which included the Secret Rare reprint of Drident, was produced to provide more accessible versions of high-demand cards from the previous year. The design of the Zoodiac monsters features a fusion of mechanical Xyz armor and animal motifs, reflecting the intense, high-tech aesthetic prevalent in the game's era. Drident remains a significant piece of card game history, often cited for its role in necessitating the game's first wave of emergency competitive bans due to the overwhelming consistency it afforded tournament players.
