In 2061 AD, Japan is dominated. Divided and ruled by the four major economic blocs of the world, the Japanese people spent their days oppressed as subjugated citizens. Japan became the front line of the world where AMAIM, a human-type special mobile weapon deployed by each economic zone, strode about.. One day, Amou Shiiba, a boy who loves machines, meets i-LeS (autonomous thinking AI) named "Gai," and this leads him to throw himself into the battle to reclaim Japan, by piloting the AMAIM "Kenbu" built by himself.

Where it came from
AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline was produced by Sunrise Beyond and directed by Nobuyoshi Habara, premiering in 2021 as a mecha anime set in a future where Japan is occupied by global trade blocs. The series centers on the AMAIM, a genre of autonomous mobile armored machines designed for guerrilla warfare rather than traditional military engagement, reflecting a narrative focus on asymmetrical conflict and political resistance.
The mecha designs were handled by a team of prominent industrial and mechanical designers, including Kenji Teraoka, Ippei Gyobu, and Kanetake Ebikawa. Their objective was to craft a distinct aesthetic that prioritized functional articulation and a grounded, realistic look compared to more fantastical super-robot designs, drawing inspiration from contemporary robotics and military hardware to emphasize the unit's role as a tactical, man-portable weapon.
