Where it came from
Boku no Hero Academia THE MOVIE: YOU'RE NEXT - A PIECE OF CAKE is an original video animation produced by Studio Bones, released in 2025 to accompany the theatrical launch of the fourth feature film in the My Hero Academia franchise. This short serves as a narrative bridge, designed to provide fans with additional character interactions that take place within the established timeline of the You're Next film, maintaining the high-octane visual identity and character-focused storytelling characteristic of the series.
The animation reflects the collaborative effort between the studio and the original manga creator, Kohei Horikoshi, who often provides input to ensure character consistency across film-related media. By expanding on the motivations of the series' core cast, this piece functions as a companion piece intended to deepen audience engagement with the theatrical narrative. It was received as a standard extension of the franchise's multimedia output, aimed primarily at the dedicated fanbase who follow the series' expansive lore beyond the primary television broadcast.
