Where it came from
Brothers Conflict is an anime adaptation of a popular series of light novels and otome games published by ASCII Media Works. Produced by the studio Brain's Base and released in 2013, the series follows Ema Hinata, a young woman who unexpectedly gains thirteen stepbrothers after her father remarries. The narrative centers on the complex and often competitive romantic dynamics that emerge within this sprawling household.
The character designs were handled by Kanako Matsumoto, who translated the visual style established by illustrator Udajo into a medium suited for television animation. The series is representative of the reverse-harem genre, focusing on high-concept domestic scenarios and distinct character archetypes. While it faced criticism for its intricate premise and the sheer volume of supporting characters, it remained a notable entry in the romance-driven anime landscape of the early 2010s.
