Where it came from
By Your Side is a signature visual novel developed by the independent studio dwarf, released to explore intimate themes of human connection and emotional vulnerability. The project emerged from a desire to create a minimalist, narrative-driven experience that prioritizes character-centric storytelling over traditional gameplay mechanics, placing the player in a reflective position as they navigate personal relationships.
The game is noted for its understated aesthetic, with character designs and illustrations crafted to evoke a sense of quiet sincerity. By eschewing complex tropes common to the genre, the creative team aimed for a grounded, atmospheric tone that emphasizes subtle dialogue. Upon release, it was well-received by the indie gaming community for its gentle pacing and the sensitivity with which it handles its core subject matter.
