Cat God: Ohanami Ghostbusters

Cat God: Ohanami Ghostbusters is an original video animation released in 2012, serving as a specialized bonus episode for the anime series Cat God (Nekogami Yaoyorozu). Produced by studio AIC Plus+, the episode continues the lighthearted, supernatural comedy format of the main series, which centers on a minor deity living in a modern-day antique shop. The production emerged from the mid-2010s trend of releasing direct-to-video side stories that expanded upon the slice-of-life adventures of established characters, allowing for more experimental or seasonal themes.

The character designs and animation approach maintain the whimsical, colorful aesthetic established by the television series, emphasizing the comedic chemistry between the titular deity and her human companions. Designed to appeal to fans of the light novel source material, the OVA was produced with a focus on festive, seasonal storytelling that leans into traditional Japanese folklore tropes reimagined through a modern comedic lens. It was generally received as a modest, character-driven supplement that satisfied the core audience's interest in further interactions between the ensemble cast.
