CITY THE ANIMATION

City The Animation is a 2025 television series produced by Kyoto Animation, based on the long-running comedy manga series City by Keiichi Arawi. The production serves as a modern adaptation of Arawi's distinctively surreal, deadpan humor, which previously gained significant acclaim through his other work, Nichijou. Kyoto Animation was selected to helm the project, bringing their signature high-fidelity character animation and expressive aesthetic to the manga's unique visual language.

The series was developed to capture the frantic and episodic nature of Arawi's storytelling, which focuses on the interconnected lives of various eccentric residents in a bustling city. The design philosophy emphasizes fluid motion and sharp, clean linework to translate Arawi's minimalistic yet highly kinetic art style into a dynamic animated format. Upon its release, the adaptation was received as a faithful expansion of the original's comedic sensibility, praised for its meticulous timing and vibrant, approachable presentation.
