Betrayed, stripped of her birthright, and declared less than human. Everything that Princess Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi of the Misurugi Empire thought she knew about her world was a lie. Now, for the crime of not being able to use magic, she’s been sentenced to certain death as a slave-soldier. The girl now known as Ange is no longer an innocent Princess: she’s learning how to kill draconic invaders, defending the same traitors who stole her life. However, they made a fatal mistake: they gave her access to an incredible weapon.

Where it came from
Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and Dragon emerged in 2014 as an original television anime series produced by Sunrise. Directed by Yoshiharu Ashino, the series was conceived as a bold, genre-bending experiment that blended elements of mecha action with high-fantasy tropes and a notably provocative, mature narrative tone. It was designed to subvert traditional expectations within the Sunrise mecha portfolio, leaning into character-driven drama and complex socio-political themes while utilizing a distinct visual style characterized by detailed character designs by Sayaka Ono.
Upon its release, the series garnered a polarized reception due to its heavy reliance on controversial themes and unconventional storytelling choices. While some critics and viewers appreciated its willingness to challenge established industry conventions and its committed, high-stakes narrative trajectory, others found the tonal shifts jarring. Despite the discourse surrounding its graphic content, the show maintained a dedicated following that appreciated its unique fusion of science fiction, fantasy, and character exploration, ultimately carving out a niche space in the mid-2010s anime landscape.
