Da Yu Hai Tang 2

Da Yu Hai Tang 2, titled Big Fish & Begonia 2, serves as the long-awaited sequel to the 2016 fantasy epic produced by B&T Studio. The original film drew significant inspiration from Chinese mythology, specifically the Taoist classic Zhuangzi, and was celebrated for its distinct visual style that synthesized traditional Chinese aesthetics with contemporary animation techniques. Development for the sequel began following the commercial success and critical discourse surrounding the first installment, as creators Liang Xuan and Zhang Chun sought to further explore the metaphysical world of the 'Others' and the intricate connection between the human and spirit realms.

The creative vision for the series emphasizes hand-drawn sensibilities despite the use of modern digital tools, aiming for a painterly quality reminiscent of traditional ink-wash paintings. The production has been characterized by a meticulous, multi-year refinement process to maintain the ethereal atmosphere established in the debut. Upon its announcement and progression through production, the project has been positioned as a significant contribution to the resurgence of Chinese auteur-driven animation, reflecting a broader movement to translate ancient philosophical folklore into a sophisticated cinematic language for global audiences.
