Where it came from
Days with My Stepsister originated as a web novel series written by Ghost Mikawa, first serialized on the platform Kakuyomu in 2020. The narrative explores the nuanced and gradual development of a relationship between two high schoolers who become step-siblings following their parents' remarriage. Its shift from a digital novel to a light novel series illustrated by Hiten garnered critical attention for its restrained, grounded approach to the rom-com genre, focusing on internal monologue and atmospheric growth rather than conventional tropes.
The 2024 television series adaptation was produced by Studio Deen under the direction of Takehiro Ueno. In bringing the source material to life, the production team emphasized a deliberate, minimalist visual style intended to mirror the contemplative nature of Mikawa's prose. The anime was received by audiences as a departure from the high-energy animation often seen in the medium, earning praise for its patient pacing and dedication to the emotional subtleties of the original characters.
