Detective Conan vs. Kid the Phantom Thief

Released in 2024, Detective Conan vs. Kid the Phantom Thief serves as a cinematic compilation and reimagining of key narrative arcs featuring the titular rivalry between Shinichi Kudo and Kaito Kid. Produced by TMS Entertainment, the film was designed to bridge the history of the series for both long-term fans and newcomers, synthesizing pivotal television episodes into a cohesive theatrical experience. It functions as a thematic lead-in to the broader Detective Conan cinematic universe, emphasizing the cat-and-mouse dynamic that has defined the franchise since its manga inception in 1994.

The film maintains the established visual identity of the TMS animation team, preserving the stylistic hallmarks of Gosho Aoyama’s character designs while utilizing modern digital compositing techniques. The production focuses on the intellectual sparring matches between the characters, opting for a narrative structure that prioritizes their long-standing antagonism. Upon release, it was received as a curated celebratory piece, highlighting the enduring appeal of the magical thief archetype within the mystery genre and reinforcing the show's position as a staple of Japanese animation.
