DNA² OVA

DNA² was originally serialized as a manga by Masakazu Katsura in Weekly Shonen Jump before being adapted into a thirteen-episode television series and a subsequent three-episode OVA by studio Madhouse in 1995. The OVA episodes were produced to conclude the narrative arc following the television broadcast, serving as a direct continuation that explores the complex science fiction premise of a future where genetic modifications threaten to transform the protagonist, Junta Momonari, into a prolific lover whose genetic makeup wreaks havoc on society.

The character design reflects Katsura’s signature aesthetic, which emphasizes fluid, expressive anatomy and a blend of romantic comedy tropes with high-concept sci-fi. By the mid-1990s, Madhouse was gaining significant traction for its ability to balance intricate action sequences with the nuanced emotional beats of character-driven drama. While the series maintains a niche following, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts of 90s animation as a quintessential example of the era's unique marriage between late-night seinen sensibilities and traditional shonen storytelling.
