Where it came from
Released in March 1996 as part of a double feature alongside the feature-length Doraemon film, Dorami & Doraemon: Robot Gakkou Nanafushigi?! serves as a spin-off short film centered on the franchise's younger sibling character, Dorami. This production emerged during a prolific era for the Doraemon cinematic universe, intended to flesh out the lore of the Robot School, a setting previously mentioned but rarely depicted in detail within the long-running anime series.
The film was directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori, who brought a vibrant, whimsical aesthetic to the visual depiction of the Robot School's seven mysteries. The design choices emphasize a lighthearted, slightly more youthful tone compared to the main Doraemon movies, successfully expanding the franchise's world-building while maintaining the classic character designs established by the late Fujiko F. Fujio.
