Where it came from
Dorami-chan: Mini-Dora SOS was released in 1989 as a companion film to the Doraemon theatrical run. It serves as a lighthearted spin-off focusing on Dorami, the younger sister of the iconic robotic cat, highlighting her distinct personality and technical capabilities within the established science-fiction comedy world created by Fujiko F. Fujio.
The film was produced by Shin-Ei Animation, a studio synonymous with the franchise's long-running visual identity. The design of the Mini-Doras—miniature, colored versions of Doraemon—was intended to introduce chaotic, comedic elements to the narrative. Upon its release, the short was received as a charming expansion of the Doraemon mythos, praised for its colorful animation style and its ability to condense the series' signature mix of gadget-based hijinks into a concise, family-friendly format.
