Where it came from
Dragon Ball Super: Ginga Patrol, known primarily as Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, was written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama and serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2013. Serving as a prequel to the original Dragon Ball series, the story follows the alien Jaco as he arrives on Earth, ultimately intersecting with the childhood of Bulma Briefs and establishing key narrative groundwork for the broader Dragon Ball mythos.
Toriyama designed the series as a lighthearted, comedic adventure that harkens back to his earlier, more whimsical storytelling style. By positioning the work as a direct precursor to the events of Dragon Ball, he aimed to enrich the existing franchise lore while retaining a self-contained, nostalgic tone. The manga was well-received by fans for its focus on character interactions and its significance in clarifying the origins of the Saiyan saga.
