Dragon Ball Super

Dragon Ball Super was produced by Toei Animation and premiered in 2015 as the first new television series in the Dragon Ball franchise in eighteen years. Picking up shortly after the defeat of Majin Buu, it serves as a direct sequel to the original Dragon Ball Z, created to expand the narrative canon following the success of the revival films Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F'. The production sought to modernize the aesthetic of Akira Toriyama’s iconic universe while introducing new scales of power, such as the concepts of gods and alternate universes.

The series was developed with heavy involvement from Akira Toriyama, who provided the foundational story concepts and character designs. While the show experienced initial criticism regarding its animation quality during early episodes, it was widely received as a significant cultural milestone that reinvigorated the global anime market. It solidified the franchise’s legacy for a new generation of fans, balancing the series' signature high-stakes martial arts action with expanded world-building that pushed the boundaries of the established lore.
