Where it came from
Beerus, the God of Destruction, was introduced as the central antagonist and subsequent recurring figure in the Dragon Ball Super television series, which first aired in 2015 and continued production through 2026. Designed by Akira Toriyama, the character was conceived to expand the Dragon Ball mythos beyond the existing hierarchy of deities, drawing visual inspiration from the artist's personal Cornish Rex cat. The character's introduction signaled a shift toward cosmic-level power scaling in the franchise, moving away from traditional terrestrial threats.
The animation and execution of Beerus were overseen by Toei Animation, aiming to blend classic Toriyama character aesthetics with a more fluid, modern combat style. The character was received as a significant addition to the series lore, effectively serving as a foil to Goku and providing a bridge between the Z and Super eras. His design, characterized by an aloof yet menacing demeanor and feline anatomy, has since become a definitive representation of the series' transition into its current multimedia iteration.
