Where it came from
Dragon Crisis! was produced by Studio DEEN and aired in early 2011, emerging during a period when the studio was heavily focused on adapting light novel series for television. Based on the light novels written by Kaya Kizaki and illustrated by Akasa Ai, the series fits into the supernatural romance and action genre popular in the late 2000s and early 2010s, centering on a high school student who discovers a young dragon girl.
The character designs and animation direction sought to balance the lighthearted, often comedic tone of the source material with the more intense fantasy battle sequences. While it was aimed at fans of fantasy adventure anime, the series received mixed critical reception at the time of its release, with some viewers praising the premise and character chemistry while others found the execution of the narrative arc to be somewhat conventional compared to other titles in Studio DEEN's diverse portfolio.
