The Quin Zaza airship sails the skies in pursuit of the deadliest (and tastiest) magical monsters in the blue: DRAGONS. While most people fear these scaly beasts, the crew of the Zaza specializes in bringing them down to earth to offer the world the medicine and food only dragons can provide. It’s a tough living, and the price for failure is all too often death, but the rewards for success are riches immeasurable — not to mention the most delicious cuisine around!

Where it came from
Drifting Dragons, known in Japan as Kuutei Dragons, was produced by Polygon Pictures and released as an original net animation in 2020. The series is based on the ongoing seinen manga by Taku Kuwabara, which began serialization in 2016. The adaptation emerged during a period of significant growth for high-end cel-shaded 3D animation, a technical specialty that Polygon Pictures had refined through previous high-profile projects like Knights of Sidonia and the Godzilla anime trilogy.
The visual design of the series aimed to translate Kuwabara’s detailed, steam-punk inspired world of sky-whaling into a fluid, immersive 3D environment. By blending digital character models with hand-painted backgrounds, the studio sought to maintain the intricate texture and atmospheric aesthetic found in the source material. Upon its international release via Netflix, the production was noted by critics for its ambitious world-building and distinct departure from the traditional 2D animation standards common in fantasy adventure titles.
