Where it came from
Dropkick on My Devil!!: Apocalypse Day, also known as Jashin-chan Dropkick: Apocalypse Day, was produced by Studio Makaria as a special installment in the long-running dark comedy anime series. Released in 2023, the production was notable for being funded through a successful community crowdfunding campaign, a method the franchise has utilized previously to engage its dedicated fanbase and bypass traditional television scheduling constraints.
The series is based on the manga by Yukiwo, which follows the surreal and often violent misadventures of a demon summoned to the human world. In this special, the creative team aimed to maintain the show's signature irreverent tone and meta-humor. The animation style adheres to the established aesthetic of the series, characterized by its sharp character designs and high-energy slapstick, which was received positively by the franchise's loyal audience who continue to support the studio's independent, fan-driven approach to production.
