Where it came from
Encouragement of Climb: Next Summit serves as the fourth television adaptation in the Yama no Susume franchise, produced by Studio 8-bit. Released in 2022, the series builds upon the established foundation of the previous seasons by expanding the narrative focus to include the entire main cast's journey through high school, while revisiting and reimagining key moments from the earlier installments through a refreshed lens.
Director Yusuke Yamamoto returned to helm the project, maintaining the series' signature blend of cozy slice-of-life storytelling and genuine mountaineering education. The production is widely noted for its significant leap in animation quality and artistic direction, particularly during the climbing sequences, which were designed to capture the atmospheric scale and physical challenge of real-world Japanese peaks like Mount Fuji and Mount Tanigawa.
