FASTENING

Fastening, a seminal work by the poet and critic J.H. Prynne, was first published in 1975. Emerging from the British Poetry Revival, the collection reflects the dense, intellectual, and linguistically rigorous approach characteristic of the Cambridge School of poetry. Prynne designed the work to challenge conventional modes of expression, employing complex syntax and layered allusions to explore the intersection of human perception and the material world.

The publication was produced during a period of significant experimentation in small-press British literature. It was received by the literary community as a demanding text that prioritized analytical depth over emotive lyricism. Over the decades, it has solidified its reputation as a key artifact of late 20th-century avant-garde poetry, consistently studied for its intricate structure and Prynne’s uncompromising commitment to his specific aesthetic philosophy.
