Where it came from
Fatal Fury 2: The New Battle was produced by NAS and released in 1993 as an original video animation, serving as an expansion of the narrative established in SNK’s popular fighting game series. Following the success of the first Fatal Fury anime, this installment was created to capitalize on the popularity of the second game in the franchise, which had introduced fan-favorite characters like Terry Bogard’s rival, Wolfgang Krauser.
The animation features character designs that lean into the stylized, muscular aesthetic common to early 1990s fighting game adaptations. It was directed by Hiroshi Fukutomi, who aimed to translate the fast-paced combat mechanics of the arcade experience into a cohesive cinematic storyline. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of the genre for its faithful visual representation of the game's roster and its contribution to the expanded lore of the Fatal Fury universe.
