Fei Ba! Lanqiu: Xuzhang

Fei Ba! Lanqiu: Xuzhang, or 'Fly! Basketball: Prologue', emerged as a specialized ONA project from Reike Eyes Animation, a studio known for its niche focus on digital-first Chinese animation. Created to serve as a narrative bridge and visual proof-of-concept, the short was designed to explore themes of athleticism and youth culture within an urban environment. Its development was marked by an effort to integrate modern aesthetic trends in character movement with the high-energy pacing characteristic of competitive sports animation.

The visual direction and character designs were driven by a team prioritizing dynamic perspective and fluid action sequences, aiming to distinguish the project from traditional television broadcasts. By utilizing a web-centric release format, the studio was able to experiment with non-linear storytelling and sharper stylistic flourishes. While it remained a localized production, it served as a significant portfolio piece for the studio, demonstrating their technical proficiency in rendering the fast-paced, tactile nature of basketball maneuvers in a digital medium.
