Feng Ji Yun Nu

Feng Ji Yun Nu is a 1999 original video animation (OVA) produced by the Japanese studio Madhouse. It was created as an adaptation of the manga series written and illustrated by Kyoko Okazaki, whose work is noted for its exploration of urban life, youth subculture, and social anxiety in late 20th-century Japan. The production was intended to translate the distinct visual aesthetics and atmospheric tone of the original print medium into a short-form animated format.

The project was directed by Takuya Igarashi, who aimed to preserve the detached, observant style characteristic of Okazaki's storytelling. Upon its release, the animation was received as a stylistic companion piece to the manga, valued by fans of alternative Japanese animation for its minimalist approach and faithfulness to the source material's stark character studies. It remains a representative example of 1990s experimental animation that prioritized mood and social commentary over traditional action-oriented narratives.
