Where it came from
Fruits Basket The Final Season, released in 2021 by TMS Entertainment, serves as the concluding chapter of the 2019 reboot of Natsuki Takaya’s seminal manga series. The production was spearheaded by director Yoshihide Ibata and character designer Yuu Shindou, who aimed to provide a faithful, high-fidelity adaptation that finally encompassed the entirety of the source material—a feat the original 2001 anime adaptation could not achieve due to the manga being incomplete at the time.
The design philosophy focused on balancing the series' signature supernatural drama with its intimate character studies, utilizing a refined color palette and expressive animation to capture the emotional gravity of the Soma family's curse. The final season was received with significant critical acclaim, particularly for its ability to provide emotional closure to long-standing story arcs, ultimately cementing its reputation as a modern staple of the shoujo genre.
