Where it came from
Released in 2006, the Fullmetal Alchemist: Premium OVA Collection serves as a supplemental anthology following the conclusion of the 2003 anime adaptation produced by Studio Bones. These shorts were created to provide fans with lighthearted, non-canonical vignettes that contrast with the somber, high-stakes tone of the primary television series, offering a rare glimpse into the daily lives of the Elric brothers and their companions.
The collection showcases the characteristic visual style developed by Bones, which emphasized fluid action and expressive character designs that defined the franchise during its early mid-2000s run. While the stories are largely comedic or experimental in nature, they were well-received by the dedicated audience of the time, functioning as a nostalgic coda that celebrated the chemistry between the series' lead characters before the transition to later adaptations.
