Where it came from
Fushigi Mahou Fun Fun Pharmacy, known in Japan as Fushigi Mahou Fun Fun Pharmacy, was produced by Toei Animation and aired in 1998. It emerged during a period when the magical girl subgenre was highly prominent in Japanese children's television, though it distinguished itself by focusing on a narrative centered around traditional Japanese folk medicine and the mystical remedies prepared by its young protagonist, Fukiko Nishino.
The series was based on the children's book series by Kazuko Okamoto. The animation style was designed to reflect the whimsical and soft-toned aesthetic typical of late 90s educational and fantasy-lite programming. It was received as a charming, lower-profile entry in Toei's catalog, appreciated for its gentle moral lessons and its unique blend of fantasy elements with the grounded world of herbal apothecaries.
