Where it came from
The Gem Scam is a short, animated promotional piece produced by miHoYo as part of the broader marketing strategy for their open-world action role-playing game, Genshin Impact. Released in the early stages of the game's lifecycle, the short was designed to leverage the game's distinct anime-inspired art style to engage the growing player base and introduce themes of resource management and exploration in a lighthearted, narrative-driven format.
The production reflects the studio's internal creative approach to expanding the game's lore beyond the interactive medium of gameplay. By utilizing the same high-fidelity visual aesthetic found in the game's cinematics, the creative team aimed to deepen player immersion. It was received as a charming addition to the expanding library of peripheral content, serving as both a community-focused effort and a testament to the studio's focus on brand world-building.
