Where it came from
Geobreeders was produced by Studio Chaos Project and released as a four-part original video animation series beginning in 1998. The series was based on the manga by Akihiro Ito and sits within the action-fantasy genre popular in late 1990s Japanese animation. It tells the story of a private organization tasked with containing supernatural entities known as Phantoms, blending paramilitary themes with occult elements.
The production sought to capture the distinct kinetic energy and gritty aesthetic of Ito's original artwork. It was designed to appeal to fans of supernatural combat series, balancing character-focused storytelling with stylized action sequences. Upon its release, it gained a dedicated cult following for its unconventional premise and the high-octane visual direction characteristic of its era.
